Themba and Priesta both studied Motor Mechanics at DBEP and are doing their final practical training at Lenasia VW. Themba hopes to get a job in the motor industry so he can support himself and his family. Priesta sees himself as a positive role model for other young people in his area, something he didn’t have growing up. DBEP not only trained them to become mechanics, but has also helped them to learn vital soft skills needed to retain a job, such as; effective communication skills, time management and budgeting – skills are already coming in handy. Both Themba and Priesta hope to break the cycle of unemployment and poverty that is so pervasive in their community by gaining the appropriate skills to get full-time employment.
