Mpho is a 4-year-old living with his mother, one brother and one sister. All the children are still in Primary school, Mpho’s mother is working as a cleaner three days a week. Mpho’s father was killed in a traffic accident when his mother was 7 months pregnant with Mpho and was full time staying home, looking after the other children. When Mpho was a month old his mother was forced to leave Mpho with any neighbours or people in the community so she could go and look for a job. For a few months he was left in the care of whoever could take him on that day.

Mpho’s mother was unable to work due to the national lockdown in 2020 and the family suffered significantly as they had no income and no savings. Mpho’s mother was able to return to work this year but the family has continued to struggle as she now needed to repay all of the loans she made when she wasn’t working. When receiving the food parcel she said she couldn’t even expressed her gratitude in words, she was too happy. With this food package she was now able to feed her family for a whole month while also settling debts which may have taken her more than six months to pay off. She then thanked everyone that is behind the operation of ensure that people like her were given an opportunity to provide food for her children.
