Martha lives with her mother, sister and seven other children. Martha’s mother is the only adult living in this house since all the other adults passed away. She works two days a week and with this small income she struggles to provide food for the nine children every day. Martha’s mother is able to access some government support, however this is only for her two children and two of her nieces. As she is only considered an informal guardian of the other five children, she is unable to receive government support for caring for them. Martha also needs speech therapy twice a week which her mother knows is so important for her, but she faces an impossible financial choice between feeding all of the children and giving Martha the speech therapy which she desperately needs.

Martha’s mother was so happy when she received the food parcel – she said they had run out of food completely the night before and she didn’t know what she was going to do. She said that no words could express her gratitude and she will offer her prayers for the team that make it possible for them to get this food.
