Lesego lives with his mother, father and two siblings in a shack that they rent in Fine Town (an informal settlement in Johannesburg). Lesego’s mother is originally from Lesotho and his father is from Botswana and so they are unable to access government support grants. This also means that Lesego and this two siblings are not able to attend government schools, so they need to walk a distance of 15km every day to go to the school at DBEP.
Lesego’s mother gets occasional work doing the laundry, while his father tries to get work as a gardener. During lockdown they were unable to go and look for work and they could not afford to feed the children or pay rent. There was no-one who could help them.
The family were so grateful for the food parcel and could not stop thanking the DBEP staff when they received it. Lesego’s mother also said that she wanted to thank everyone who is behind the food parcel contribution and would continue to pray for everyone who put efforts in to ensure that the children of DBEP received the food parcels.
