Jamil had always struggled with formal education and didn’t do well in school. He was 20 years old and had not worked since leaving school when he came across the Don Bosco Education Projects flyer advertising the skills courses. He decided to give the Baking and Consumer Science course a try. Completing this course ignited a passion for baking and a renewed self-belief and determination to succeed. He has since collaborated with a friend to open a Bakery in Ennerdale and has even gone on to complete a further course elsewhere to learn the skill of making sourdough bread. He is using his new skills to sell baked goods and bread during the day and pizzas in the evenings. Jamil has shown that with a little encouragement, support and belief young people can change the entire trajectory of their lives.
